How to Install

Important: Back up your current save files before replacing them, and disable Steam Cloud for Until Dawn temporarily so it does not restore your old progress. Until Dawn autosaves after every choice — always back up first.

Download and extract the .zip file to your desktop.

Open your save folder: C:\Users\[Name]\Documents\My Games\Bates\Saved\SaveGames\

Open the numbered folder inside (your user ID) and backup the existing files by copying them elsewhere.

Paste the extracted files into that numbered folder and overwrite when prompted.

Launch Until Dawn and choose Continue or Chapter Select.

Yes, the folder really is called Bates — it was the remake's internal project name. Paste %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Bates\Saved\SaveGames into the File Explorer address bar to open it directly.

About Until Dawn

Until Dawn is an interactive horror drama, first released by Supermassive Games in 2015 and remade in Unreal Engine 5 by Ballistic Moon in 2024. A year after two sisters disappeared, eight friends return to a remote lodge on Blackwood Mountain for a winter getaway. Before long, someone — or something — starts hunting them.

The core of the game is the Butterfly Effect system. Every choice, every quick-time event and every moment where you hold still or run changes who lives and who dies. Any of the eight characters can survive or die, and the story changes to match. Totems scattered across the mountain give you short glimpses of possible futures.
