How to Install

Important: Back up your existing SaveGames folder first and disable Steam Cloud for Outward, otherwise Steam may replace the new characters with your cloud copy on launch.

Download and extract the .zip file to your desktop.

In Steam, right-click Outward Definitive Edition → Properties → General and turn off Steam Cloud.

Right-click the game → Manage → Browse local files. The Definitive Edition runs from the Outward_Defed subfolder — open it, then SaveGames\.

Open the folder named after your Steam ID and back up its contents.

Copy the three character folders from the download into that Steam ID folder.

Launch the game, choose Continue / Load and pick the character for the faction you want.

Each character is stored as its own folder, so you can add the downloaded characters next to your existing ones instead of replacing them — just leave your own folders in place.

Is this Outward save file safe to use?

Yes. Outward has no anti-cheat and saves are stored locally, so loading a completed character carries no risk for your Steam account.

Where is the Outward save file located on PC?

Saves live inside the game folder: steamapps\common\Outward\Outward_Defed\SaveGames\<steam-id>\ for the Definitive Edition. Each character is a separate subfolder.

Does it work with the original Outward (not Definitive)?

The save was made on the Definitive Edition. The base game can load the characters only if you own both DLCs, since the save contains items and areas from The Soroboreans and The Three Brothers.

Can I use the save in co-op?

Why does my old progress still load?

Steam Cloud most likely restored your old files. Disable Steam Cloud for Outward, copy the save again and launch.

About Outward Definitive Edition

Outward is an open-world survival RPG from Nine Dots Studio, first released in 2019 and later bundled with both expansions as the Definitive Edition. You play an ordinary adventurer in Aurai — no chosen-one powers, just a backpack, a debt to pay off and a world that does not scale to you.

The game is famous for its unforgiving design: eating, sleeping and keeping warm matter, magic requires carefully preparing your body, and defeat leads to strange rescue scenarios instead of a simple reload. The Soroboreans added the corruption mechanic and new cities, while The Three Brothers brought the Caldera and its endgame bosses.
