Devil May Cry 5 is a hack-and-slash action game developed and published by Capcom, released in March 2019 under director Hideaki Itsuno. It's the fifth mainline entry in the series, picking up story threads left dangling since Devil May Cry 4 and bringing back three playable characters: veteran demon hunter Dante, his estranged relative Nero, and the mysterious newcomer V, each with a completely distinct combat style and moveset.
Built on Capcom's RE Engine, the game is best known for its stylish "SSS-rank" combo scoring system, Nero's swappable Devil Breaker prosthetic arms, V's trio of summoned familiars (Griffon, Shadow, and Nightmare), and Dante's ability to swap between four combat styles and multiple weapons on the fly. Bloody Palace, the series' signature 101-floor survival gauntlet, was added as free post-launch content shortly after release.
Devil May Cry 5 was widely praised as a high point for the character-action genre and for the series itself, with Special Edition following in 2020 to add Vergil as a fourth playable character alongside ray tracing and Turbo/Legendary Dark Knight modes on next-gen platforms.
