How to Install

Important: The Obra Dinn save format is plain text, so it's easy to overwrite by accident — back up your existing ObraDinn folder before copying anything in. Also note: this save contains every fate already solved, which spoils the entire mystery. It's meant for achievement hunters, completionists chasing "Obra Done," or players stuck near the end who want to see the finished book.

1
Make sure Return of the Obra Dinn is fully closed before replacing save data.
2
Navigate to your save folder: C:\Users\[YourUsername]\AppData\LocalLow\3909\ObraDinn\ (paste into Explorer, or press Win + R and type %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\3909\ObraDinn)
3
Backup your existing save data by copying the entire ObraDinn folder to your desktop first.
4
Download and extract the .zip file.
5
Copy the extracted save files into the ObraDinn folder, overwriting the existing files when prompted.
6
Launch Return of the Obra Dinn and open your book from the pause menu — all 60 fates show as correctly recorded, and every achievement unlocks on the title screen.

Story spoilers: Because Return of the Obra Dinn's entire loop is deducing each fate yourself from visual and audio clues, loading this save skips the mystery outright. It contains the fully solved 60-person crew manifest, the exact cause and method of death for each person, and precise chapter timestamps for all ten chapters — useful for finishing the achievement list, not for a first playthrough.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this Return of the Obra Dinn save file safe to use?
Yes. Return of the Obra Dinn is entirely single-player with no online components, anti-cheat, or leaderboards. The save is a local text file that only affects your own game, so there's zero risk to your Steam account.
Where is the Return of the Obra Dinn save file location on PC?
Saves are at C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\LocalLow\3909\ObraDinn\, stored as plain text with a Backup subfolder the game maintains automatically. Steam App ID 653530.
Does this save spoil the mystery?
Yes, completely — every one of the 60 fates is already solved when you load it. Only use this if you've finished the game, are stuck near the end, or specifically want the achievements without redoing the full investigation.
What is the "Obra Done" achievement?
Obra Done is awarded when every one of the 60 fates in the book is correctly identified — full name, status, and exact cause of death. It's the game's true 100% completion achievement.
What's the difference between "Captain Did It" and "Abandon Ship"?
"Captain Did It" is a joke achievement for marking every single fate (including the ones who disappeared without a body) as killed by the Captain, regardless of the real answer. "Abandon Ship" is earned by leaving the ship via the final chapter without having solved all the earlier chapters first — a deliberately "wrong" way to finish.
Will this save work on Mac or other non-Steam versions?
This save is built for the Steam (Windows) release and its LocalLow save path. GOG, Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox versions use separate save systems this file won't work with.
Do I need to disable anything before installing?
Return of the Obra Dinn doesn't use Steam Cloud syncing by default for this save location, but it's still good practice to fully close the game before copying files, and to back up your existing ObraDinn folder in case you want to return to your own progress.
How many achievements does this unlock?
All 16 Steam achievements, including every chapter-completion achievement (Loose Cargo through The End), the progress milestones (Any 6/15/30/45), and both alternate endings, Captain Did It and Abandon Ship.
About Return of the Obra Dinn

Return of the Obra Dinn is a mystery adventure game designed, written, and programmed almost entirely by Lucas Pope (creator of Papers, Please) under the studio name 3909 LLC, released in October 2018. Its most striking feature is a 1-bit dithered visual style that mimics early Macintosh graphics, rendered in full 3D — a technical achievement that won it multiple Best Art Direction awards, including a BAFTA.

You play an insurance investigator for the East India Company, sent to inspect the derelict ship Obra Dinn after it mysteriously reappears off the coast of England in 1808 with no crew aboard. Using a supernatural pocket watch called the Memento Mortem, you can walk into the frozen moment just before each person's death, view a 3D tableau of the scene, and piece together clues from uniforms, accents, conversations, and the ship's own logbook to determine who each of the 60 people was and how they died.

The investigation is deliberately non-linear — chapters unlock as you find death scenes scattered across the ship, and your logbook only permanently records a fate once you've confirmed it with three independent clues. Reaching 100% completion means correctly identifying every single one of the 60 crew and passengers, not just their name but their exact fate, across all ten chapters — a puzzle that typically takes 8-15 hours of careful deduction and note-taking to solve legitimately.
