3
Backup your existing profile_0 folder by copying it to your desktop.

DLC required: This save references content from the Crimson Court and Color of Madness DLC, plus the free Shieldbreaker/Flagellant/Musketeer hero classes. Own the relevant DLC on Steam for the corresponding districts and bosses to appear correctly when loading this save.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this Darkest Dungeon save file safe to use?
Yes. Darkest Dungeon is a single-player roguelike with no PvP or anti-cheat systems. A save only affects your own game and carries no risk to your Steam account.
Where is the Darkest Dungeon save file located on PC?
At C:\Users\[Username]\Documents\Darkest\profile_0\, in persist.*.json files. Steam App ID 262060.
Are all 15 hero classes included?
Yes, all hero classes including DLC classes (Shieldbreaker, Flagellant, Musketeer, Abomination, Crusader) are recruited and leveled to Resolve 6.
Do I need the Crimson Court and Color of Madness DLC?
To see the full content this save reflects (their districts, bosses, and mechanics), yes — otherwise the base game portions still load correctly.
Will using this save affect other players?
No, Darkest Dungeon is entirely single-player, so a save file only affects your own game.
Is permadeath an issue with a downloaded save?
No — this save reflects a completed roster state. If a hero dies in your own subsequent play, that's normal permadeath, unrelated to the save file itself.
About Darkest Dungeon

Darkest Dungeon is a gothic roguelike RPG developed by Red Hook Studios, released in January 2016 after a successful Kickstarter campaign. Players manage a roster of flawed, breakable heroes exploring a corrupted estate's dungeons, balancing dungeon-crawling combat against a signature stress and affliction system where heroes can psychologically break under pressure.

The game is known for its unforgiving difficulty, striking hand-drawn art style narrated by a foreboding voice, and permadeath mechanics that make every expedition a real risk to a carefully built roster. Managing stress, diseases, quirks, and the hamlet's support buildings (tavern, abbey, sanitarium) is as central to success as combat itself.

Red Hook expanded the base game with the Crimson Court and Color of Madness DLC, adding new regions, bosses, and hero classes (Shieldbreaker, Flagellant, and later free classes like Musketeer and Abomination). A sequel, Darkest Dungeon II, released in 2023 with a reworked roguelite structure. Full completion in the original requires maxing every hero class, clearing every boss including DLC content, and fully upgrading the hamlet.
